Tips: How to Study Words

Here are some thoughts from different students.
  • Read the words out loud.
  • Write out the words. Repeat this action as many times as you need so that you feel confident. Depends on what you like, you could also get yourself a whiteboard (or laminated paper) and a whiteboard marker so that you could write and erase the words there, making it perhaps more interesting than just the paper-and-pen-technique.
  • Make up sentences where you use the words. Write them down and / or say them out loud.
  • Ask your friend / family member to ask you the words both ways - in English and in Estonian.
  • Do your own sets of words on Quizlet. It's an internet based program that gives you lots of opportunities to practice your words online together with pronunciation and games!
  • Use an additional paper to covering one side of the words - English or Estonian. After doing the translation from English to Estonian, try also Estonian to English. You can do it both by writing down the words or saying them out loud.
  • Prepare your own word test and do it without using the materials.
  • Play the dice game as follows.
