Learning

Here I would like to share some understandings that I have about learning, and which also affect the environment that we have in our lessons.

The information on this page will be updated often to provide a more comprehensive picture step by step.

We learn something every single moment, willingly or unwillingly, noticed or unnoticed.

I would connect the term of learning to getting new or changing the existing knowledge, skills, behaviors or values.

The goal of our learning at school is rather tricky - we must get the knowledge and skills that would help us to live our lives in the best way for us. But how can we know what we need? And how can we know what the future brings us?

What do you think about this video:

After thinking for quite a while, I have come up with certain characteristis that I think would be useful for all of us to learn (you are very welcome to debate about them!). Through our lessons, my aim is to encourage us all to develop and practice them.

In addition, taken that we are having English lessons, I also think it is very important that we develop high level of English, learning and communication skills.

Based on what has been said, I think these things are important in our learning

Personal analysis - the key. That is why with most of the tasks this year the students are asked to analyse their learning themselves and evaluate their work.

Honesty matters. We learn for ourselves. Our results show our (and/or our team's) knowledge and skills truthfully. It is ok not to know all the answers. It is not ok to work dishonestly.

In most of the times, learning doesn't happen in silence. I believe in the power of communication and teamwork, and encourage students to develop their skills so that they could work with anyone next to them. Together with this, there are some moments which require total silence and attention. That's why we have set the following system for being able to manage our voice level effectively.

I as a teacher don't know many things, but I seek to develop and facilitate better and better learning for my students. I warmly encourage you to give feedback (both negative and positive) and make suggestions for new solutions - that's the role of all of us!

Every person's needs are important. We help everyone. Only that we are not always mind readers and that's why you need to let us know if you need help! :)

Making mistakes is only natureal. Because

Our task is to learn from our mistakes - not to repeat doing the same ones over and over again.

In the middle of our school year 2011/2012, 7th and 8th grade students wrote about the things they are learning in our classroom. Continue reading about their thoughts here.
